Accessibility at Kōwhai Grove

At Kōwhai Grove, we’re committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy the festival together.

If you have any access needs, questions, or suggestions, we really encourage you to get in touch ahead of the festival. Whether you’re unsure about the site, want to check if something will work for you, or have ideas to improve access, please email us at operations@tyan.haus. We’d love to hear from you!

Companion and Support Tickets

Companion tickets are available free of charge for our Deaf, disabled, or neurodiverse whānau who would benefit from having a support person at the festival. If having a companion will support or improve your experience at Kōwahi Grove, this option is available to you. No proof of disability or impairment is required, and is easily arranged by emailing us at operations@tyan.haus.

Site Accessibility

Accessible parking is available close to the camping area. The ticket gate for wristband collection can be accessed by vehicle. The festival site is private vehicle access only.

An accessible portaloo will be provided on site.

The festival site is stair-free, with a handrail along the ramp leading into the grove. Seating is available throughout the site, including near the stage. The ground across the venue is mostly grass, with some uneven areas. If you’d like more detailed information about the terrain, please contact us before the event.

Sensory Conditions

The festival’s production plan includes lasers, haze, strobes, and other flashing lights. Music is expected to run from 3pm to 6am Friday, and 10am to 6am Saturday. Several quieter spaces will be available away from the stage for anyone needing time out from crowds or stimulation.

Welfare, Psycare, and Support

Two separate support spaces will be available on site, and open between 3pm to 6am Friday, and 10am to 6am Saturday.

The Kaitiaki Tent is  available for anyone experiencing emotional or psychological distress, needing wellbeing support, or simply wanting space away from the hustle of the festival. This is not a silent or sound-free space, but it is a place to rest, regroup, or sit with support.

The Psycare Tent is specifically for people experiencing substance-related distress and provides trained, non-judgemental support.

Medical staff and security personnel will be on site 24/7 and will be wearing hi-vis vests.

Emergencies and Getting Help

There is no cell phone reception at the venue. If you need help, please approach any staff member, security, medic, or volunteer, or go directly to the kaitiaki or medical tents.

Event organisers have access to Wi-Fi and can contact emergency services if needed.

Ongoing Accessibility

This is Kōwhai Grove’s first year delivering an accessibility programme. We know we won’t get everything right, and we’re committed to learning and improving. Feedback before, during, and after the festival is always welcome.
